Simon Panter: Pre-orientation for flanks

The goalkeeper coach seminar was concluded by Simon Panter, goalkeeper coach at women's Bundesliga club SC Sand. First, he presented his club, SC Sand, in a short video. The town of 2,000 people on the border with France is the last exotic in the women's Bundesliga, where big clubs now dominate the scene. The film, which can be viewed on Youtube, gave an atmospheric impression of the family-like atmosphere within the club. The final sentence was: "It's all a bit different in Sand". There is nothing more to add to that!
Panter then gave an insight into his way of working by means of an overview table of a typical training week. He usually trains a certain training focus on the same day of a training week. For example, 1-on-1 is a fixed part of the training session every Thursday. In varied exercises that are geared to the game situation, he repeatedly trains the clean technical processes that are required in this situation. An equally recurring part of each training week is the preparation of the goalkeepers for the standard situations of the opposing team. With the help of video footage, he analyzes their rehearsed sequences and gives his goalkeepers possible courses of action on how they can successfully handle these game situations.
However, the main part of his lecture was a practical part. His topic was "The goalkeeper's pre-orientation during crosses". Through various exercises, he showed how goalkeepers can be instructed not only to concentrate on the provider of the cross from the outside, but also to perceive what is happening immediately in front of his goal, because that is where the real danger of scoring comes from. He has to adjust his starting position to the respective game situation and at the same time coach his defenders so that the space in front of the goal is secured. With the help of optical signals, he got the goalkeepers to briefly take their eyes off the flanker in a danger-free situation and to recognize and name the optical signal of the coach. You can see some of Simon Panter's practice forms in the short video.
